Field Types & Rules

When creating a Lead Gen form in LinkDM, you can choose from a variety of field types to collect the information you need—all delivered one question at a time through Instagram DMs.

Each field type is customizable, validated, and designed to keep the experience fast and frictionless for users.

Field Type Breakdown

1. Name

Collects the user’s name
Must be at least 3 characters
Placeholder text is provided and can be edited
Optional: Can be marked as “Required” or skippable

2. Email

Validates standard email format (e.g. user@example.com)
Added by default in every new form (but can be removed)
Customizable label and prompt
Optional skip setting available

3. Phone Number

Accepts only numbers and symbols (e.g. +, -)
Minimum of 7 characters
Customizable label and example text
Skip option supported if not marked as required

4. Date of Birth

Typed input only (no date picker)
Creator can add a prompt to suggest format (e.g. MM/DD/YYYY or DD/MM/YYYY)
Validates basic date structure
Optional field

5. Custom Field

Most flexible field—add multiple per form
Free text question with optional validation message
Great for questions like “Where are you based?” or “What’s your Instagram handle?”
Fully customizable with label, hint, and skip setting

6. Multiple Choice

Ask a question with up to 10 quick reply options
Each option can be up to 20 characters long
User can select only one answer
Once selected, the next question is sent immediately

7. Welcome Message

Optional field that appears first (if added)
Text-only message that introduces the form
Cannot be reordered
No personalization or dynamic content supported

8. Confirmation Message

Required closing message
Always appears last and cannot be reordered
Used to confirm the form is complete
Text-only, no links or buttons
