What is Instagram Automation

Instagram Automation is a newly released set of features (Announced on June 2nd ) that gives verified developers like us the ability to build tools for our customers on Instagram.

Automation is available for all business accounts on Instagram. If your account is setup as a ‘Creator account’ you can convert it to a Business account in the Instagram app settings. 

We provide digital marketers with brand new ways to automation their Instagram users experience. For example, brands can now:

  • Automatically send a direct message (DM) to users who comments on a newsfeed post
  • Automatically respond to Instagram Story replies
  • Automatically respond to anyone that @mentions your brand in their Instagram Story
  • Automatically respond to DMs
  • Set up Conversation Starters in your Instagram Inbox

Automation Features

Post Comments Auto-Reply

Post Comments Automation allows you to automatically reply to users post comments with a DM if their message contains a specified keyword trigger.

For example; If a user comments on a post with any of the specified keyword they would receive an automatically sent message directly to their Inbox. This automated message might include a web link with various CTA buttons or even just a text only message.

Here are a few scenarios;
Scenario #1: E-Commerce / Online Store
Add a keyword triggers ‘Shop’ to any post via LinkDM and updating the post caption to include a message like; ‘Comment SHOP to get the link sent to your inbox’.

Scenario #2: Lead Generation
Add a keyword trigger ‘Signup’ to any post via LinkDM and updating the post caption to include ‘Comment SIGNUP to get the signup form sent to your inbox’.

Scenario #3: News Article / Blog Post
Add a keyword trigger ‘Read’ to any post via LinkDM and updating the post caption to include ‘Comment READ to get the article sent to your inbox’.


Story Replies Auto-Responder

Story Reply Automation allows you to automatically reply to users story replies if their message contains a specified keyword trigger.

For example; If you setup the story reply keyword triggers to be 'Read More' or 'More Info' if the users response contained any of these words or phrases they would receive an automatically sent message directly to their Inbox. This automated message might include a web link with various CTA buttons or even just a text only message.

Scenario #1: E-Commerce / Online Store
Add a keyword trigger ‘Shop’ to your story replies via LinkDM and including a message overlay on the story like; ‘Reply SHOP to get the link’.

Scenario #2: Hospitality / Bookings / Sales
Add a keyword trigger ‘Book’ to your story replies via LinkDM and including a message overlay on the story like; ‘Reply BOOK to plan your next holiday.'

Scenario #3: Retail / Store Locator
Add a keyword trigger ‘Book’ to your story replies via LinkDM and including a message overlay on the story like; ‘Reply STORE to find your nearest location!'


Story Mention Auto-Reply

Setup an automated reply that is sent to users whenever someone @mentions your brand in their Instagram Story.

Here are a few scenarios;
Scenario #1: Thank You
Automatically reply simply thanking the person for @mentioning your brand in their story. "Thank you for tagging us in your story"

Scenario #2: Competition / Giveaway
Encourage users to re-share your brands story and @mention your brand to enter the giveaway. Once they have posted their story a message will be automatically sent to users with a link to enter their details in the giveaway. "Thanks for re-sharing, here's the link to enter the competition"

Scenario #3: Promocode
Thank users for @mentioning your brand in their story by automatically sending them a promocode. "Thanks for sharing your story, here's a 20% off promo code!"


Inbox Conversation Starters

Conversation Starters in Inbox are pre-determined words or sentences that users can click to instantly get a reply via DM. Users will see these if they navigate to your brands profile Inbox. Brands can set up to 5 conversation starters that are a maximum 80 characters long.
